Facets of our global life-support system

We live in the Anthropocene, a time in which humans have become a geological force. We are threatening our own future by driving biodiversity loss and environmental degradation. The environment and biodiversity are essential parts of our global life support system. Our global life support system is highly complex, has many facets and components, and their destruction has effects of varying degrees on our society, our well-being, and our health. The one-day conference will see a series of lectures, directed to an interested public, by outstanding international researchers. This symposium has also a personal note, as it marks the end of a 5-year AXA Chair on Functional Mountain Ecology. The different lectures will therefore be interspersed by short capsules on mountain research and the latest research findings. The conference will be bilingual, meaning some lectures are in French others in English.
